How exciting to find so much about Indonesia, a country I fell in love for its simple life, friendly, welcoming people with a wonderful sense of humor, and beautiful geography. I spent 5 of 8 weeks in 1994 on Gili Trawangan, and imagine paradise to be like that island! Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Leslie Oplinger (Vermont, USA)

Thanks a lot.

Do you know any pages on the web where i could find these informations ?

Thank you for your help and again "bravo" for your pages i found very instructives.

Greetings from Brazil!

As you already know I'm from Brazil. I am traveling to Indonesia next january for a course about cooperatives in Bekasi, Bandung and Subang.

I would be very pleased if you could tell some information about what to take, what to dress and which places shoul I visit during my stay. Also, as I have never visited a muslim country I would like you to tell me if women have any constraint in their daily life.

In Brazil, and you surely have heard about that, we go to the beaches wearing bikinis. What do people wear in West Java?

Thanks a lot,
Thais.

I love your site! The temples are wonderful. We are going to be staying at the Shangri-la in Surabaya. Would like to know how best to see the temples...are there bus tours? or do we need to rent a car. How long does it take to get to Borabadur? the other temple sites? Also...is it possible to use the Internet for communication to the states from some location in or near the Shangri-la?

Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Best regards, SS

Hi
I've just read your pages in the WWW about Indonesia because I'll visit this country next summer. At the moment, I'm looking for local travel agencies in Indonesia, but I couldn't find them in the Internet.

I know, it's not your job to be a travel guide, but could you e-mail me the adresses and fax-numbers of a few travel agents in Indonesia if you know some? That would be great!

Thanks a lot!
Kind regards

I'm a Prodigy user in the USA & I'm having great difficulty distinquishing the line items which appear in a very pale yellow & the background. It maybe because the Prodigy WEB browser does not use Netscape.

It's a shame because from what I can barely see you have done assembled an excellent source of info on Indonesia. I only wish I could see it.

We are professors in Boston who spend every summer in Indonesia teaching in Jakarta. We travel extensively in Indonesia and would be happy to answer any questions about where to stay and what to do. We had a great trip in Sulewesi this summer. We went to Toraja and had a marvelous experience. I can highly recommend a travel guide named Yunus. His address is Komp. BTN Paropo No. A.1 Ujung Pandang 90233. He was our guide in Unjung Pandang two years ago and then set up last summer's trip. He takes groups from 2-30 people. He can arrange modest to expensive accomodations and knows lots of good restaurants. He picked us up at the airport in U.P. and we drove (great driver) to Rantepao. Spent two nights there and returned to U.P. Everything went perfectly. We attended a funeral that no other tourists knew about and at which the village head welcomed us. We bought a very large tautau that arrived in pretty good shape two months later. We can be reached through my school (Northeastern University) 313 Hayden Hall Boston, MA 02115 or fax (617) 373-8628 or phone (617)373-4756. No, we do not get a commission!

Hi Liono. I wanted to thank your for developing such a great home page, but I really miss the photographs that are much needed. I'm planning a four month journey to Indonesia in Feb. Any places that can't be missed and do you know anything about camping facilities. I'll have a friend with me for two months, but then I'm going out on my own. I want to visit all the big islands and really want to see the smaller villages. Any suggestions for a backpacking traveller? Thanks, Alyssa.

Allo Liono:
I am very impressed with your home page. It is not only superior technically, but it seems very factual. My family and I lived in Jakarta for almost five years in the early and mid 80's, and your information seems right on the money (except for the prices, which are shocking!). I really enjoyed checking out your page, it brought back a lot of great memories. We (my wife, three grade school age children, and I) still think fondly of Indonesia. I worked for Pertamina, and got to travel over a good deal of the country.

Kasih, ya? Nanti kali.

Dear Sir,
I am working for National Commitee of 50th Anniversary of Indonesia. We have been creating a homepage about Indonesia too, but it hasn't launched yet. We are going to put some data of "Traveling in Indonesia" too. Therefore, I wonder if you could allow us to copy your text & map (in English & Indonesia) because you have a great form about this subject. Of course, we will put the information that we use your homepage as a source of our homepage.

Thank you,

Subject: Batak Origins

Selamat Pagi--
I worked in Medan for a year as an advisor to the vocational teacher training school there. I discovered some evidence that the Batak tribes may have voyaged from the Persian Gulf as early as 2000 B.C. Then their descendents moved east to islands off the coast of New Guinea and were the ancestors of the Polynesians who settled the Pacific. I have written about this isn a book, Star Trek to Hawa-i'i. I have a small Web page which shows a picture of the book's cover and describes the book briefly.

I would appreciate it if you would include the address of my page in your page. The address is (http://www.webmediagrp.com/~rmenapac/stth/home.html)

If you know anyone in Indonesia who would like to exchange ideas on this I would like to hear from them. I have two e-mail addresses: chostett@well.com and chostett@oboe.aix.calpoly.edu

Terima kasih dan majuajua.
